Winter is on the way and it won’t be long until the chill will be in the air! We hope this guide helps you combat the winter chill and keep your skin looking and feeling its best.
As the winter months settle in, our skin often bears the brunt of the seasonal shift. Cold air, harsh winds, and indoor heating can strip moisture from the skin, leaving it dry, irritated, and vulnerable. But with the right winter skincare routine, you can keep your skin soft, hydrated, and glowing all season long. Here’s everything you need to know about caring for your skin during winter.
1. Switch to a Hydrating Cleanser
In colder weather, a foaming or gel-based cleanser might be too harsh for dry skin. Opt for a creamy or hydrating cleanser that won’t strip away natural oils, like the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, Clarins Hydrating Gentle Foaming Cleanser or La Roche Posay Toleraine Dermo Cleanser.
Look for ingredients like glycerin, hyaluronic acid, and ceramides. These not only cleanse but also replenish moisture, helping to maintain the skin’s natural barrier.
2. Layer on Hydration: Toners and Serums
Winter air is dry so if using a toner as part of your routine, choose a hydrating toner.
We highly recommend using a serum – one that contains hyaluronic acid or niacinamide is ideal in the winter. These ingredients help retain moisture and soothe irritation.
Toners such as the CaudalĂe Vinoclean Moisturising Toner is a great way to clear the skin of impurities and makeup while toning the skin and keeping it hydrated.
Serums that can help hydrate the skin would be the likes of Sculpted HydraGlo Hydrating Serum or Clarins Double Serum.
3. Moisturise, Moisturise, Moisturise!
The right moisturiser is your best friend in winter. Go for a richer, thicker formula that provides a protective barrier against harsh elements, such as the Sculpted Cloud Cream, Clarins Hydra-Essentiel, or CeraVe Moisturising Cream Tube.
For extra moisture, look for products with shea butter, squalane and ceramides. These are particularly effective for locking in hydration.
4. SPFÂ is Still Essential
UV rays are still present in winter, even on cloudy or snowy days, and snow reflects the sun, increasing your exposure.
Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30, even if you’re indoors, as UV rays can penetrate windows.
Our favourites are Avéne Mineral Fluid SPF50, La Roche Posay Anthelios UVMune Fluid SPF50, and La Roche Posay Anthelios Oil Control Fluid SPF50.
5. Don’t Forget Your Lips
Winter air can be harsh on your lips, making them dry and cracked. Some good lip balms are Pestle & Mortar Chummi Lip Mask, La Roche Posay Nutritic Stick, and Nuxe Réve de Miel Lip Stick.
Use a nourishing lip balm with beeswax, lanolin, or shea butter throughout the day. At night, apply a thick layer to deeply moisturise while you sleep.
6. Care for Your Hands
The skin on our hands and feet is prone to dryness in winter due to exposure and less oil glands. Use a thicker hand cream that includes glycerin or urea.
Some good hand creams would be Sanctuary Spa Hand Cream, Aveeno Daily Moisturising Hand Cream, and CeraVe Reparative Hand Cream.
Winter skincare doesn’t have to be complicated; it just requires a bit more attention to hydration and protection. By making a few adjustments to your skincare routine, you can keep your skin feeling soft, hydrated, and radiant all winter long.
