Covid-19 Booster

COVID-19 BOOSTER DOSES

The protection from previous doses or a COVID-19 infection may weaken over time. Booster doses help boost your antibodies and give you good protection from becoming seriously ill or needing to go to hospital if you get COVID-19.

A first booster is recommended for all adults age 18 years and older. After this, seasonal boosters are recommended for some people. To find out more about the Covid Booster vaccine, please visit the HSE website here.

How long to wait

Wait 6 months after your last COVID-19 vaccine or COVID-19 infection.

For some people who need protection sooner, you can get your booster 3 months after your last COVID-19 vaccine or infection.

COVID-19 Spring Booster Campaign 2024

NIAC has recommended a COVID-19 Spring booster for the following cohorts:

  • those aged 80 years and older;
  • those aged 5 years and older with immunocompromise associated with a suboptimal response to vaccination (Pharmacies can vaccinate those 12 years and older in this cohort); and
  • those living in long-term care facilities for older adults (this cohort will be offered their booster where they live)

NIAC has also recommended that the Spring booster be made available for those aged 70 to 79 years who, following discussion with a healthcare provider, request vaccination.

As booster dose supplies arrive into our pharmacies over the coming weeks, appointments are being opened. If you’re having difficulty finding a time please check back as we make further appointments available. We will also share updates of appointment availability on our social media pages.
